The following is an excerpt from a recent newsletter from District 13 Senator Borris L. Miles:
Last week, the Texas Legislature gaveled in and the governor and the lieutenant governor shared their legislative priorities, asking legislators to push their agenda forward. I respect my colleagues, but my goal is to work for you and our community’s issues. I plan on fighting for more than just education finance reform, but to restore and repair the damage that was done back in 2011 when Republicans led a budget that cut education by $5 billion. I also plan on fighting to protect our neighborhoods from the impacts of industrial facilities like concrete crushing facilities and mixed batch plants. I will be fighting to make sure we bring back every federal dollar possible to Senate District 13 to help those who are still recovering from Harvey. I will continue to be a champion for criminal justice reform and propose legislation reduce recidivism and ensure those who complete their sentence are able to get a job and contribute back to society. I will bring more jobs back to my district, and continue to bring more opportunities to help the unemployed and underemployed in our community. My goal has and always will be to fight for you!
